In Alberta our scavenger birds are magpies and crows, but this morning I witnessed a dance outside my front porch between
some gulls and ravens.
Dysis was quite content for a while and wondering what
was up I looked out
to this………quite a cacaphony and careful circling of the gulls.
I don't know if it is true but one story I have heard since coming up this time was that the ravens work in teams and once were witnessed imitating dog barks enough to distract the dog and eat his food.
On one of my walks about two weeks ago with Dysis along the shore
I did notice at this pen where this mother
and pups were held a raven had been killed and hung upside down on the fence.
Obviously it was a deterrent to other birds from making forays at the dogs and food.
These pups were adorable and making escape attempts by digging at the corner of the pen, which I blocked up. I since heard that one had escaped and died because got caught by other dogs that were tethered along the stream. These dogs seemed to be fed and watered regularily but there were other teams tethered by streams
which had a water source but I am not certain how often checked or fed.
