Just a few final shots from Nunavut as the blogging will be shifting to my Alberta adventures.
My last day of work the moon in sky
about 5 PM leaving health center in Arviat and the sun also setting
Travel the next morning actually went amazingly well
despite an hour delay in the morning flight from Arviat and my concern about missing the West jet connection Waiting at Arviat airport I actually first arrived about 8 AM before any staff had arrived at the airport, dropped off one of my bags and all the other ones had been checked the previous day. Drove others to work and dropped off with pup Nanuq. Delayed about an hour, she patiently waiting with ball
and we made some forays outside.
Weather station outside airport last day in Arviat
about 9 AM and minus 35oC with a wind….beautiful but pretty nippy. A Calm Air cargo plane unloaded and the exhaust shows the cold.
Nanuq playing in snow outside airport
Unloading kennel from Calm Air in Winnipeg
Nanuq took well to the kennel and staff at the airport extremely helpful in watching bags and dog and checking luggage through the oversized security.
Walking near Winnipeg airport had about an hour...it was still minus 25oC
Another Nanook at Winnipeg airport.
Maureen and Ron picked me up and got my car from Orla's....really surprised at how tired I was and sleep has been fitful for the first few nights. Enjoying the puppy and surprisingly she sleeps on the back porch at night and likes it, but not unexpected considering the temperatures she was used to. A few accidents inside but it will come. Delayed in getting Dysis by a day and made the introductions in the leash free area of the ravine…. so how do they react together. Dysis had her nose out of joint for a fair while growling and stealing toys and sleeping in the same spots and at times just tacitly ignoring the puppy. She was showing she was top dog and my task was to show that I am ‘Alpha ‘ let’s just say it has been a very busy week including about $70 worth of chewy toys from the local pet pharmacy.
Both dogs have travel kennels on the back porch but at night puppy is outside and Dysis in.
A routine is developing of good morning walks in the ravine
and lazy afternoons both sleeping on the porch. The challenge has been at times when others have come over and I need calm dogs,
Nanuq suddenly becomes active and chewy and Dysis abit snarly so both get banished to the back porch.
Personally taking some time to get back to regular routines..have been unpacking, doing the mail, trimmed plants, a few didn't survive the African violets but this always happens, been snow shoveling, taking down outside lights and vacuuming... I think I will be living in shedding dog hair again with two dogs. It is good to be back and very wise to take it slowly for a few days…so glad it is warm out just around freezing.
At times, these two worlds seem very schizophrenic as left with the beginnings of winter and Christmas and now melting snow, a provincial election, and almost Easter.
