Many towns and cities are often known by some unusual landmark, such as the giant Ukranian Easter egg in Vegreville.... well in Edmonton, it is our man made waterfall into the North Saskatchewan River, off the High Level Bridge. This iron structure is a railway tressell bridge, built originally about 1910 for CPR, and a connector between Edmonton and Strathcona. These days the main deck has 2 lanes of one way north south car traffic and the upper deck is used by a tourist trolley car in the summer.
It gets turned on 2-3 times/year, usually on holiday weekends and was on last night from 9-11 PM.
Makes for great viewing and surprisingly interesting photo ops.
Was coolish as temps went down to just above freezing, but the dogs and I wandered down about 9:30 PM.
The self portrait attempt
as usual produces odd angles and my wonderfully square jawbut then some cyclists came along and got the dogs and I.
Did some experimenting later on the lap top and decided that black and white is effective.
here is an original shot followed by B&W.
and the sepia tones.

About me...
An Albertan & Canadian, definitely a northern gal. Social worker by profession, this blog has included some of my work over 10 years in Nunavut from 2002 on. Passionate about slowing down & taking time to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors or kindness in relationships as gifts & blessings; injustices against children in situations beyond their control; my faith; Nature, experiencing the outdoors whether cycling, walking. x-c skiing or gardening, my dogs, capturing on film God's beauty, experiencing life intensely & with the senses, richness of late afternoon light, wind in my hair cycling with my dog on a beach road, couching inches from an arctic flower or alpine lichen to capture it with my camera, insight of a student's new learning, a good conversation over a coffee.
