  • 6th photo meme....

Here then are the rules that govern this 6th photo meme....originally from Clare

    1) Open your Pictures folder (or documents)
    2) Open the sixth folder there
    3) Post the sixth photo in that folder
    4) Blog about it
    5) Tag six friends.

This is the GN housing unit I was in  Pond Inlet in June '06....I do casual social work and although I now own two dogs, at the time I didn't have any, but met a neighbour, Debbie, a biologist and that summer we took in a local dog, Scruffy. This was the beginning of many wild dog adventures, including her breaking loose when she was in heat and yours truly chasing these two black and white dogs across the back tundra near the airport.  I have found most often that a house sitting situation has been needed when coming to Nunavut for an extended period with dogs. In Pond and Arctic Bay ended up renting a GN house at $950 to 1400/month. The rent in transient units ( shared ) is usually $16-$18/day and recently they have instituted a "no pet " policy, at least in the Kivalliq...Rankin was last work site this summer. Other times stayed in health centers ( sans dogs ) Now all my experience has been as direct casual with DHSS. With nursing, I know often agency hire and the situation may be different...as a social worker recent policy is will not hire through agency.

About me...

An Albertan & Canadian, definitely a northern gal. Social worker by profession, this blog has included some of my work over 10 years in Nunavut from 2002 on. Passionate about slowing down & taking time to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors or kindness in relationships as gifts & blessings; injustices against children in situations beyond their control; my faith; Nature, experiencing the outdoors whether cycling, walking. x-c skiing or gardening, my dogs, capturing on film God's beauty, experiencing life intensely & with the senses, richness of late afternoon light, wind in my hair cycling with my dog on a beach road, couching inches from an arctic flower or alpine lichen to capture it with my camera, insight of a student's new learning, a good conversation over a coffee.
