  • Touches of Red....photo essay

From blazing sunsets to lone hidden berries, there is something about the splash of red and pink hues in a forest of green or dark city outlines that draws our eyes to focus on that one spot.

Wandering this week in the backyard and ravine I was similarly drawn with my camera, even more so after the rains storms that followed scorching hot August days.

Here is my photo essay including some shots from earlier in the year:

From my backyard sunset last August just after finishing painting trim on garage.

Victoria's Beacon Hill Park in late September.

Stanley Park Vancouver in early October

Amelia walking dogs in November snow

3 PM  February sunset in Yellowknife

    Rose hips after the rain,

    mountain ash berries,

Back yard tomatoes soon ready to harvest and good with fresh basil

Solitary blooms on a front yard stalk

Ripe Evans cherries with rain droplets

  • Full Moon Rising...

The first full moon in September is often called a harvest moon....round and golden as it rises on the horizon. Tonight on a bike ride home I caught a few shots of both the street lights and full moon behind some spruce trees. Some moody effects added later with sepia and black and white photo shopping.

About me...

An Albertan & Canadian, definitely a northern gal. Social worker by profession, this blog has included some of my work over 10 years in Nunavut from 2002 on. Passionate about slowing down & taking time to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors or kindness in relationships as gifts & blessings; injustices against children in situations beyond their control; my faith; Nature, experiencing the outdoors whether cycling, walking. x-c skiing or gardening, my dogs, capturing on film God's beauty, experiencing life intensely & with the senses, richness of late afternoon light, wind in my hair cycling with my dog on a beach road, couching inches from an arctic flower or alpine lichen to capture it with my camera, insight of a student's new learning, a good conversation over a coffee.
