  • Dogventures and an inquisitive squirrel

Just a few of my outdoor shots this past week.... membership BBQ at our community league and Nanuq ended up playing tug a war with me and the kids.

I am feeling more than DONE with yard clean up for a while from prickly raspberry bushes to trimming my cedars so the neighbour can see out her kitchen window to dogs laying in wait for mice and hornets... the photo says it all!

Inquisitive squirrel this little fellow at one of my bike stops ( without the dogs obviously would not have got this close )

Here  an after church bike ride last Sunday, rather overcast at first and ended in a torrential down pour but some great spots along the river valley trails. Seagulls on North Sask. river river near Groat Bridge and further up Mackenzie Ravine ...one of my favorite rides.Downtown Edmonton looking west including Dawson Bridge and Hotel MacDonald and Edmonton Queen riverboat.

  • Touches of Red....photo essay

From blazing sunsets to lone hidden berries, there is something about the splash of red and pink hues in a forest of green or dark city outlines that draws our eyes to focus on that one spot.

Wandering this week in the backyard and ravine I was similarly drawn with my camera, even more so after the rains storms that followed scorching hot August days.

Here is my photo essay including some shots from earlier in the year:

From my backyard sunset last August just after finishing painting trim on garage.

  • Full Moon Rising...

The first full moon in September is often called a harvest moon....round and golden as it rises on the horizon. Tonight on a bike ride home I caught a few shots of both the street lights and full moon behind some spruce trees. Some moody effects added later with sepia and black and white photo shopping.

  • Tuesday morning blog meanderings....

Sitting with my coffee on the front deck and perusing my usual stops of CBC, facebook, email and other blogs thought would share with you two links to check:

    • Apparently Lululemon will not be starting a store, at least not immediately in Iqaluit, and one commentator was amazed there were no roads to Iqaluit ( also please do NOT spell it with a " u " after the " q "... unpleasant translation in Inuktitut )

      http://www.lululemon.com/community/blog/lululemon-in-nunavut/

    • In my day we sent baby photos...you know the cute cards of newborns....now it is both ultrasound scans and moments after delivery via the net.....some amazing commentary of their journey with their 30 week old pre-mie, Robin, check out Matt and Cindy's blog.../http://furryfriends2008.blogspot.com

About me...

An Albertan & Canadian, definitely a northern gal. Social worker by profession, this blog has included some of my work over 10 years in Nunavut from 2002 on. Passionate about slowing down & taking time to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors or kindness in relationships as gifts & blessings; injustices against children in situations beyond their control; my faith; Nature, experiencing the outdoors whether cycling, walking. x-c skiing or gardening, my dogs, capturing on film God's beauty, experiencing life intensely & with the senses, richness of late afternoon light, wind in my hair cycling with my dog on a beach road, couching inches from an arctic flower or alpine lichen to capture it with my camera, insight of a student's new learning, a good conversation over a coffee.
