  • Alberta Prairie Ride

My brother Don Patterson is cycling x-c fundraising for the Y's. I acted as pilot car for one leg in central Alberta leaving the city at 5:30 AM Edmonton Alberta to meet up in Killiam for his ride to Provost & beyond to Saskatchewan

In the city for a wedding Don and Debi managed a quick coffee on my front porch Sunday morning.

Don and his friend Jim did the first 100 KMs together leaving Monday morning about 8 AM from the Smitty's parking lot in Killiam AB. Edmonton rain was avoided but riding against the wind was a challenge

Fields of golden canola, ponds with ducks and prairie railway crossings from my car window were typical

as I waited for the two riders   with pit stops for water and gatorade and snack bars.

Finishing at about 12:30 PM between Czar and Provost Don would continue for his second 100 KMs on his own to spend the night in Unity Sask.

Jim and I drove back to Killiam to pick up Jim's car and I did some visiting in Camrose.

About me...

An Albertan & Canadian, definitely a northern gal. Social worker by profession, this blog has included some of my work over 10 years in Nunavut from 2002 on. Passionate about slowing down & taking time to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors or kindness in relationships as gifts & blessings; injustices against children in situations beyond their control; my faith; Nature, experiencing the outdoors whether cycling, walking. x-c skiing or gardening, my dogs, capturing on film God's beauty, experiencing life intensely & with the senses, richness of late afternoon light, wind in my hair cycling with my dog on a beach road, couching inches from an arctic flower or alpine lichen to capture it with my camera, insight of a student's new learning, a good conversation over a coffee.
