  • First snow of the season and wondering when...

it will be here to stay! this is what greeted me on the back porch and yard. a quick check to see if all the down spouts from the roof were attached as I think will probably melt in the next day or so. Heavy, wet and fluffy all the trees were coated, but snow shovel and broom needed for the porches. Dogs not quite certain about finding a dry spot, but enjoyed a ravine run.

With Amelia here, I could take one dog, Dysis and the bike to the ravine. Immensely beautiful and peaceful, many others were out both walking and building snow structures. Amelia later came with Nanuq and took a walk before her departure back to Vancouver this afternoon. She decided that perhaps that training run could wait for Vancouver weather. i.e. no slushy snow! So here is her Vancouver blog http://www.dreamingovertheocean.blogspot.com/ I rode the bike back and stopped at one of my favorite slookout spots.

  • Fall Fixin’s and family gatherings

November seems to be marching quickly as I reflect on this all the first few flakes of snow are coming down this evening!

My daughter Amelia has been visiting for just a few days from Vancouver, much to my delight but a quick only few days stay. Arrived Sunday night with laundry and all!

She, Makayla, Katherine, Patrick and Christopher had spent the day driving down to the Canmore area to do some caving in the Rat's nest caves about 5 hrs. underground with a guide but also grubby wet clothes afterwards....I am not sure if this appeals to me but it was a new experience for the younger girls.

I spent a good part of Sunday dog walking and came on this old school desk in the fall leaves in the ravine and thought made a neat photo...wondering perhaps what stories there were behind past usages.

A gathering of friends and family tonight for Makayla's 13th. Made garlic butter and toast to bring along and accompanied the lasagna, green salad and pumpkin pie.

Dinner, gift opening including musical cards, a photo album, T shirts, gift cards and scented bath and candles.  Amelia and Katherine engaged in a string game of cat's cradle and these are some photos of my two lovely girls!

About me...

An Albertan & Canadian, definitely a northern gal. Social worker by profession, this blog has included some of my work over 10 years in Nunavut from 2002 on. Passionate about slowing down & taking time to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors or kindness in relationships as gifts & blessings; injustices against children in situations beyond their control; my faith; Nature, experiencing the outdoors whether cycling, walking. x-c skiing or gardening, my dogs, capturing on film God's beauty, experiencing life intensely & with the senses, richness of late afternoon light, wind in my hair cycling with my dog on a beach road, couching inches from an arctic flower or alpine lichen to capture it with my camera, insight of a student's new learning, a good conversation over a coffee.
