How interesting!
@katietroyer - As you probably guessed by my blog I really have a heart for dogs.
In many of the northern communities the only shots available are rabies usually given by a by-law officer....no vets.
In this case one of the men working at the clinic had 4 husky pups that he would eventually like to begin a dog team. I arranged to get in some of the puppy shots and dewormers from a kennel in another community. So here we were giving the first set of shots and I was very thankful for the help of some of the RNs and we all were delighted by the pups who trailed after their owner.
It has led to some discussions of traditional wisdom like when feeding dogs cod fish the heads are cut off because parasitic and transfered to the dogs. Regular fare is usually seal meat or caribou but these pups also have store bought kibbles which you can imagine is not cheap.
The overlap between traditional Inuit culture and the encroaching southern one is indeeed interesting.
