  • Tulips in Ottawa

Spring has definitely hit Ottawa but I have not been able to do many tours,  for the most part seen only either hospital grounds when out with my wheel chair or the airport.....the hospital grounds had some spots of daffodils and odd tulips but not in concentrated beds. Saturday afternoon was my last day and decided to take a taxi trip with Amelia and walk to see the tulips near Dowds Lake.    Wish I had been able to take a wheel chair as the crutches were quite exhausting but we saw some lovely beds. Many of these bulbs were a gift from Holland as noted on the plaque here.  Red, white a blue bed. An odd red petal   among the yellow tulips made for some interesting shots. In the middle of our walk there came a torrential spring down pour and I retreated to one of the benches with my crutches pretty exhausted and wet. The less than half a block to get to the Malone restaruant and bar was excruciatingly slow about 25 minutes but the beer and club sandwich was well worth it before a 5 PM taxi pick up.

  • Those are some beautiful pictures! I know crutches can be exhausting at first, but if you have to be on them for a while it will get easier. And your arms will get a nice workout too. :)

  • @musicalsoulmel - Yes Mel crutches can be exhausting...that day was the longest I had walked with them and pretty close to tears at times, but the tulips well worth it!

About me...

An Albertan & Canadian, definitely a northern gal. Social worker by profession, this blog has included some of my work over 10 years in Nunavut from 2002 on. Passionate about slowing down & taking time to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors or kindness in relationships as gifts & blessings; injustices against children in situations beyond their control; my faith; Nature, experiencing the outdoors whether cycling, walking. x-c skiing or gardening, my dogs, capturing on film God's beauty, experiencing life intensely & with the senses, richness of late afternoon light, wind in my hair cycling with my dog on a beach road, couching inches from an arctic flower or alpine lichen to capture it with my camera, insight of a student's new learning, a good conversation over a coffee.
