  • Nunavut 2006 census

These are stats borrowed from Darcy's blog, WayWayUp but found interesting.

According to the 2006 census numbers as a territory, Nunavut now has 29, 474 people. With the possible
exception of Iqaluit, most of the territory's growth has been through
    natural increase

Arctic Bay now has 690 people, up from 646 in 2001.

Nunavut is one of only two political jurisdictions in Canada where the majority does not speak English as a first language. Quebec, or course, would be the other. Nunavut also has a very young population with the median age is around 19 years of age.

  • New and Old

Some of you may have noticed that I have added a new skin or a new look to the blog. Was doing some looking under the different xanga skins and one has the opportunity to preview them on your site. Found this one and liked both the blues and the stars. It has taken a little work to still maintain the links to both my photos and northern blog sites ( see on top )

Now I have been blogging on www.xanga.com for about 3 years now and my site is  on the list of northern bloggers. This has resulted is more footprints and viewing from others which I think is great.

The only disadvantage appears to be that to exchange comments one has to be under the same provider. Am reluctant to change sites but have signed up myself on a Google account so I can leave comments on the other sites.

That is as far as I have got to date.

Thinking about changes...this is a photo of my nephew into music and computers when I was visiting in Ontario last week. Take a look at the oak cabinet behind. This comes from my father who was a lawyer in Alberta until mid-70s and each of those drawers is for different legal forms, applications, and affidavits. Looking through them found dates back to the 1950s and one form that has not changed was Canada Post’s change of address notification!

About me...

An Albertan & Canadian, definitely a northern gal. Social worker by profession, this blog has included some of my work over 10 years in Nunavut from 2002 on. Passionate about slowing down & taking time to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors or kindness in relationships as gifts & blessings; injustices against children in situations beyond their control; my faith; Nature, experiencing the outdoors whether cycling, walking. x-c skiing or gardening, my dogs, capturing on film God's beauty, experiencing life intensely & with the senses, richness of late afternoon light, wind in my hair cycling with my dog on a beach road, couching inches from an arctic flower or alpine lichen to capture it with my camera, insight of a student's new learning, a good conversation over a coffee.
