  • Photo challenge....

For those of you who want something different you might want to try the Daily Photo Challenge....link back to http://dailyphotos.xanga.com

The idea is to post a photo every day. It's an exercise. If possible, in January the theme shall be New Year, changes, everyday life seen differently or under a different "light", so there are room for experimentation.

Although I will not post daily here is my photo on this theme....taken in my front yard fire pit when I tried to get an outdoor winter fire going and enjoy an Alley Kat beer as well...thus the silver colored beer stein....like the contrasts of textures here.

  • Brrrr. I think I'd rather have the fire indoors. A nice open fire in a big fireplace with enough room for a pile of logs either side to dry out and warm up. Two comfy chairs so Karon and I can sit and watch the flames and glowing embers, contemplate life, the universe and everything while supping on a pint of guinness for me and a Pino Grigio for Karon – just like we have up our local pub!

  • darn ... I would love to do this but my digital right now is having to have tape hold the batteries in [and also, it's over 8 years old!] so will pass till I get a camera that I can use with some confidence that the batteries won't fall out during a shot.    LOL

    Have a nice day!

  • @rojobe - So do you have that indoor fireplace because you paint a wonderful word picture! Being in an urban setting we have rules around the outdoor fire pits but I have enough space in my front yard to build one a few years ago and much enjoyed especially in the summer.

  • @Jennelle - Duct tape works really well for such repairs... been there...as canadians we say if it moves and you don't want it to use duct tape and if it doesn't move and you need it to WD40!

My first digital got to the same place yours did taping in the battery cover and then got donated to a youth project at church. Was really surprised how prices had dropped over the years and how i could upgrade to a better model for about the same price.

  • We do... at our local pub. Next house we buy, Karon wants an open fire.

  • Hi!
Your picture is really nice. If I had a garden I would like to have a pit fire outside, not just for summer but also for winter as I can imagine myself dressing with very hot cloth  near the fire in a very very cold day! For instance... roasting chestnuts and drinking coffee or maybe... a glass of champagne =)
Beautiful picture with different contrasting textures!

  • Or roasting sausages like at the Deep Freeze Festival! =D

About me...

An Albertan & Canadian, definitely a northern gal. Social worker by profession, this blog has included some of my work over 10 years in Nunavut from 2002 on. Passionate about slowing down & taking time to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors or kindness in relationships as gifts & blessings; injustices against children in situations beyond their control; my faith; Nature, experiencing the outdoors whether cycling, walking. x-c skiing or gardening, my dogs, capturing on film God's beauty, experiencing life intensely & with the senses, richness of late afternoon light, wind in my hair cycling with my dog on a beach road, couching inches from an arctic flower or alpine lichen to capture it with my camera, insight of a student's new learning, a good conversation over a coffee.
