  • B is for Blogging...when did you first start?

The coming of the blogs. Someone, somewhere created the very first Web log…The term was created to reflect the process of “logging the web”.  Would be interested dear readers, what triggered you to start blogging?

Xanga the original provider of this site was started in 1999. In 2004, both my daughter Amelia and I created blogs on Xanga… my blogging here has recorded not only family journeys, but my own work journey to the Canadian arctic and back!

Indeed, my Xanga blog, became a friend as did the community here.

Things changed in mid-2013 with the launch of Xanga-2 and move to WordPress. many bloggers moved on or closed accounts. My subscription runs out in July 2014.

Must confess that only return occassionally and log daily into my Facebook account. Formatting since the change does not seem to have the same flexibility but still enjoy a few of the " OLD FAITHFULS ". such as slmret.xanga.com and fauquet.xanga.com/   Take some time to browse their entries.

My daughter Amelia charted her travels to Africa and adventures at university WVU as a Canadian on the women's rowing team in http://that-canadian-rower.xanga.com/….and  currently now marrried  from Vancouver as an inner city RN and tri-athlete blogs  always a good read http://dreamingovertheocean.blogspot.ca/

This is one of my favorite shots from the Pentiction Challenge when a stolen kiss from her husband Sean.DSCN6688

  • Hey there... I'm trying but it's hard without much feedback. I'm glad you're here! :)

  • I came to Xanga to find some feedback for my photos -- gained many new friends, and am sorry to see Xanga 2.0 struggling so badly. I've also received some wonderful feedback from people like you on places to see the things I want to see, and thoughts to ponder.

  • Hello,

Here from the A-Z, and enjoyed your photos especially. I started off late and with blogger, a friend got me started, she has stopped long ago, but I have got thoroughly hooked :)
    Best wishes,
    Nilanjana.

  • Wow! You've been at it for a long time! I started my first blog in 2006 on the now defunct Livespaces. It was a Microsoft attempt to establish a blog platform. Nice photos. I think it's so neat that you've chronicled so many things on a single blog. Kudos! Good luck on the A to Z :-)

    • Yes Teresa, there have been a number now defunct blog platforms. Xanga here is in a version 2 and not the same as it was previously.Well thanks for stopping by!

  • Nice to meet another Canadian. I began blogging in April of 2010. Considered giving it up altogether more than once but - here I am.

  • I almost chose B is for Blogging and after reading your fantastic post I am glad I did not for I would not have done it justice at all!
I wrote a book THE BRIDGE OF DEATHS and an on-line publicist set up my first Blog, a must to leave a cyber footprint. I realised how many other authors needed on-line venues so I created a blog where I simply spotlighted other authors and artists. I created a third blog called IS HISTORY THE AGREED UPON LIE? because we all have opinions and perspectives. I loved your history of Blogging! Great to connect with #atozchallenge visit me at http://4covert2overt.blogspot.com/

    • Thanks for stopping by! Yes, with a specific purpose or topic on our blogs a community can be developedwith good exchanges of ideas as you have found out.

  • I started 6 years ago. It's work but there are some neat and interesting folks out there.

    Happy A to Z

  • I started blogging in 2010 and I've moved blogs a couple times, but now I'm settled. :) I was first motivated at a writer's conference when they told us social networking was a priority in creating a following and community. Still working on building mine. :) Good luck with A-Z!!

    • Thanks for stopping by Bonnie. What I like about blogging is that to write takes abit more thought that the quick responses or re=posts o some of the other social media. Certainly finding the A-Z a challenge in that aspect as well!

  • I started on blogger years ago to chart my writing journey. I also attempted a photo-a-day thing on blogger. I made the switch to WordPress last year, I think it was. I like the sense of community.

  • I only started blogging a couple years ago...have enjoyed many blog hops. This is my first A to Z challenge, but I'm thinking it won't be my last.

    • Thanks for stopping by Millie...yes indeed it has been abit of a challenge having to blog every day but am enjoying the interactions and meeting new folks!

About me...

An Albertan & Canadian, definitely a northern gal. Social worker by profession, this blog has included some of my work over 10 years in Nunavut from 2002 on. Passionate about slowing down & taking time to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors or kindness in relationships as gifts & blessings; injustices against children in situations beyond their control; my faith; Nature, experiencing the outdoors whether cycling, walking. x-c skiing or gardening, my dogs, capturing on film God's beauty, experiencing life intensely & with the senses, richness of late afternoon light, wind in my hair cycling with my dog on a beach road, couching inches from an arctic flower or alpine lichen to capture it with my camera, insight of a student's new learning, a good conversation over a coffee.
